Free School Meals

Free School Meals

We are now providing supermarket vouchers, for eligible families, as part of the Government FSM scheme - in partnership with Edenred UK.

Families are entitled to £15 per week for each eligible child.

This is not applicable to families whose children usually have a free school meal in school as part of the Universal Free School Meals scheme – which is for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

Unfortunately, Nursery age children are not eligible for vouchers and neither are children who are currently having a packed lunch in school.

What do I do if I haven’t had my e-code or voucher yet?

Due to the very high number of applications being processed nationally on the Edenred site there have been, and continue to be, extensive delays with the system.  We are doing everything we can to provide e-codes to families as soon as possible but there can be up to a one week delay between us applying and emails being sent to families.  Thank you for your patience during what we understand is a very challenging, worrying and upsetting time for many.

If you haven’t had your e-codes and are finding it difficult, due to current circumstances, to provide a lunch time meal for your children please phone the office as soon as possible to order packed lunches.  Phone before 10am Monday to Friday on 0161 224 1269.

How do I get my child’s FSM supermarket vouchers?

We have phoned to speak with all families whose children are eligible for FSM to check that we have an up-to-date email address that you can access.  Once we have applied in school you will be sent an email, by Edenred UK with a 16 digit e-code.  You can then use this code, online, to get a digital supermarket voucher.  You will not be able to use the e-code directly in a supermarket and must have used it to download a digital voucher first.

If you have not received an e-code and think you should have done, please phone the school office on 0161 224 1269.

How much will I get?

Each eligible child will receive a voucher for £15 per week.  Families will receive one code that covers all children living in their household.  So if there are two eligible children, this will be £30 per week, for three children £45 per week and for four children £60 per week.

Where possible we are applying for vouchers in blocks of four weeks at a time.  So a family with one eligible child would get £60, with two eligible children would get £120, three eligible children would get £180 and four eligible children would get £240.

These vouchers are to be used to purchase food that can be used to provide lunches for your children whilst school is closed.

As the vouchers are to purchase food for children, they have an age limit to them. This means they cannot be used to purchase alcohol or cigarettes.

What will the Edenred email look like?

Please see the bottom of this page for a copy of the email that will be sent to eligible families with their e-code.

During the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the government are temporarily extending free school meal eligibility to include some children of groups who have no recourse to public funds (NRPF).

These groups are:

• Children of Zambrano carers

• Children of families with no recourse to public funds with a right to remain in the UK on grounds of private and family life under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights

• Children of families receiving support under Section 17 of the Children Act 1989 who are also subject to a no recourse to public funds restriction

These groups are also subject to a maximum household earnings threshold of £7,400 per annum.

They are also temporarily extending eligibility to children of a subset of failed asylum seekers supported under Section 4 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999. This group is not subject to a maximum household earnings threshold.

Further information regarding FSM eligibility for these additional children can be seen on the government website below:
